REP was started by a couple entrepreneurs in West Liberty, IA in 2006 and has grown into a successful small business that serves the radon mitigation needs of Eastern Iowa in numerous communities (including Iowa City, Coralville, Cedar Rapids, Washington, Muscatine, etc.) with a daily focus on customer service.

The business has evolved from a small operation out of a garage, to a business with a commercial shop/storefront in Solon, IA (as of 2015) that houses a fleet of vehicles and equipment to quickly meet the radon needs for local Iowans.

REP is credentialed through the state of Iowa and fully insured. REP also holds certification through the American Association of Radon Scientists & Technologists - National Radon Proficiency Programs (AARST NNRP) for multi-family dwellings as well and is actively pursuing certification for commercial properties.

REP has two-state certified radon mitigation specialists - John Farlinger (M00072) & Joe Sullivan (M00164).

John Farlinger

Owner, Certified Mitigator
John Farlinger started the Radon business in 2006 after becoming a state-certified Radon Mitigator. John grew up in West Liberty, Iowa where he was actively involved with the businesses his entrepreneurial parents owned and operated. John later graduated from City High in Iowa City and moved to Highland, Kansas to earn his associates degree while running cross country and track. John then attended Simpson College to complete his bachelor’s degree in Business Management where he began his career in the banking industry. After moving back to the Iowa City area, John found his way into radon through his father’s construction business and quickly applied his management degree to starting a new business When “Radon John” isn’t fighting radon, you can find him on the golf course, playing outside with his kids, biking, boating, or watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Vikings or St. Louis Cardinals.

Joe Sullivan

Certified Mitigator
Joe Sullivan began his working career at the age of 14, when he became employed at the local Hy-Vee grocery store in Atlantic, Iowa. He spent the next eight years with the company, in a variety of positions, from bag-boy to department management. It was here that Joe learned the importance of courtesy and customer service. In 2008, Joe moved to Iowa City to attend the University of Iowa. A position with a local roofing company led to his discovery of a passion for construction and hands-on labor. Not wanting to be unemployed for part of the year, roofing being a seasonal profession, he sought out a part-time winter position. It was then that he was introduced to John Farlinger, who was happy to receive a helping-hand at REP in the coldest part of the year. Joe quickly attained an understanding of radon, the risk it presents, and its methods of management and mitigation. He became state certified in 2015, and has been utilizing his skills in construction and customer service to provide an enjoyable and satisfying experience for each client ever since.
